Peet worked for "Volk Vaderland and Five rand", he was a traveling salesman in Africa and best of all he's been a journeyman through the fickle world they call the professional kitchen. Peet also had a collection of poetry published in 1998 and in between then and now there are lots of scribbles, dead ends and late nights in small kitchens.

Peet's love of travel has taken him to England where he's picked flowers on the west coast, hitch-hiked across the eastern side of America from Erie Pennsylvania to Orlando Florida and all the way back to Toronto Canada, he's traveled from Maputo to Beira and learned how to bake bread the “African Bakery” way in Zambia.

But running a thin red line on the left side of these pages of his life is Peet's love for writing, cooking and later on photography, and a place he found when the next lift went there in 1994: The West Coast.

After working in Cape Town for 3 years at Village and Life he migrated back to the West Coast and got the great opportunity to work at The Farmhouse Hotel which enables him to live, cook, write about and photograph the West Coast with all its tastes, beauty and diversity.  

Lourika completed school in 1998 in Pretoria, after which she obtained her Diploma in Wedding Planning. After a number of years she decided to re-locate to the beautiful West Coast to join the Village & Life group at The Farmhouse Hotel. She loves long walks on the beach and reading.

Shahn was born in Behar, Cape Town. After she completed school and matriculated in 2006, she attended Cape Peninsula University where she completed her 3 year National Diploma in Tourism Management. She decided to join Village & Life in December 2009 and located to the West Coast to join the team at The Farmhouse Hotel. Shahn loves shopping, reading and swimming.

Sarilize, also known as “Smiley” forms an integral part of our all woman team at The Farmhouse Hotel, assisting with flower arrangement from local flora. Smiley was born in the farming community of Malmesbury and went to school in Hopefield. She completed her tertiary education in Paarl and achieved her Public Relations Certificate.  Smiley has been with us since 1997 and enjoys entertaining, modern dancing and the popular hobby of scrap-booking.

Handyman Hendrik was born in Pretoria. He attended Sonnits School and for the past 10 years he has lived in the West Coast. He is a true asset to the Farmhouse family. He enjoys touch rugby and fishing.

Juliet was born in Hopefield and matriculated in 1998. She studied at Langebaan Academy of Health & Beauty and achieved Diploma’s from ITEC & CIDESCO. Juliet finished her studies in 2001, and has been a beauty therapist for 7 years. In her spare time, Juliet enjoys going to the theatre and reading novels.

Liezl has been with us at Village and Life for just over 2 years. She was born in Fort Beaufort and attended school in Somerset West at Parel Vallei High School.  After school, Liezl achieved her National Diploma in Cost and Management Accounting at Stellenbosch and then went travelling in Europe and Asia, when not working as an accountant for an investment company in London.  Liezl loves horse riding, reading, to explore the country and spend time with friends and family
